MICHELLE ROMAN ANNOUNCES BID FOR LOCKPORT MAYOR
Democrat Michelle Roman today announced her candidacy in the special election for the city of Lockport Mayor. “I love having grown up in Lockport and appreciate having had the privilege of raising my children here. I want to fight for the things important to all residents in every ward, so they can enjoy the same quality of life my family enjoyed years and years ago,” said Roman.
“After discussing some of the decisions made by the city government with my sons, they asked me to make a run for office,” said Roman. “They reminded me that I always taught them that to see change, you have to be part of the change. Lockport’s middle class is struggling and no amount of partisan political spin can change that fact,” she added.
Roman said, “The key to making Lockport a better place to live is having a transparent and open government; one that encourages regular citizens to have a more vocal role in the decision making process; finds creative solutions and builds broader community coalitions. This will strengthen and broaden our service to the residents of this city, especially those who have been disenfranchised.” declared Roman.
Roman is a lifelong resident of Lockport. She resides on Cherry Street and raised sons, Joshua Richter and Derek, Jr. here with her husband, Derek Roman; being active in the Lockport Little league for many years. She attended LSHS and graduated from Niagara County Community College with an AAS in Human Services, SUNY Brockport with a BS degree in Psychology; and SUNY Buffalo State with a MS degree in Exceptional Education. She is a public school teacher, union member and an active member of the VFW Auxiliary 2535. She volunteers with the city’s parks and gardens with her eldest son.
